Introduction of Attendees

With no new members, the Group acknowledged the proactive work being undertaken.

Presentation and Adoption of Annual Report

The biggest acknowledgement was of the work undertaken by Michael Fedigan and Martin McLister during Remembering the Fallen. Particular praise was given to all the volunteers in their endeavours to ensure that the cemetery was ready to commemorate every person who lost their life during the conflicts.

Discussion on future projects

1. Consideration was given to the Group’s wish to see the reinstatement of laid flat headstones within the Cemetery.

A. It was agreed that an initial survey of the Cemetery be undertaken with a view to FOHC making an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for support.

B. Norma Hagan commented that as part of FOHC’s work that the Mill Museum could be involved in researching some of the lairs that had Mill employees buried within the Cemetery with a view helping identify any living relatives

C. Michael Fedigan was praised for his work in photographing the many laid flat graves. It was thought that this would help establish ownership.

D. Martin McLister was credited for cleaning a number of headstones, with family permission granted. It had been noted how much they improved the outlook of the Cemetery.

E. Desmond Barr commented that there was a number of prominent headstones which had been laid flat, it was agreed that on, being identified, help be sought from the various organisations the individuals represented with a view to establishing a framework for reinstatement.

F. Angela Collie asked how many laid flat headstones there were within Hawkhead? 1747 was the number given.

G. Betty Johnston commented on the money required to be funded by FOHC. It is noted that unless we are given significant investment, help, and support, then there was no way that the work could be undertaken.

2. It was noted that an application had been made to the Glasgow Airport Flight Path Fund for help with organising and expanding the Remembering the Fallen Campaign.

3. A productive meeting was held with the new Neighbourhood Services Manager and the Neighbourhoods Services Business & Assets Team Leader. It was agreed to hold further meetings.

4. Discussions took place about Cemetery of the Year 2026. Given that no real reinstatement work had taken place, it was agreed to note this subject.

5. It was noted that the Neighbourhoods Service Manager had raised the subject of the Council applying for Green Flag status. Similar to Cemetery of the Year, it was agreed that Hawkhead Cemetery had not made enough progress and that only with such investment/commitment would enable FOHC to be able to support such an application.

6. Proposed dates for FOHC Debris Clearance Weekends

        18/19th April 2026

        16/17th May 2026

        13/14th June 2026

        22/23rd August 2026

7. Development of Remembering the Fallen

Consideration to be given on how

to best utilise the local schools on an offsite basis.

        both primary and secondary, how

best to involve the territorial army

         and also local Memorial masons.

        Any other competent business:

There was no other business to
