Remembering the Fallen

Remembering the Fallen

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission, their employees and volunteers, do a fantastic job of commemorating members of military personnel who were killed during the First and Second World Wars. They have 223 identified war graves within the cemetery.

In addition to the war graves, there are family memorials to many others, all around, who died as a result of enemy action. These memorials do not fall under the umbrella of care provided by the Commission.

Army, Navy, RAF, First Aid personnel, Doctors, Nurses, Firemen, Merchant Seamen, Drivers, and Bombing casualties among them.

Friends of Hawkhead Cemetery, together with Sight Scotland Veterans, intend to show our respect during November to these victims of war.

We plan to place a cross at each memorial to pay our respects to the persons named on the memorials. The crosses will be crafted for us by Sight Scotland, thanks to John Riley and his comrades. We intend to offer to place the crosses on behalf of any person who wishes to pay their respects along with us. A voluntary donation of £2 minimum would be suggested.

Volunteers from FOHC will place the crosses at the memorials in time for Remembrance Sunday.

If you are aware of any victim of war that we have missed, please email info@friendsofhawkheadcemetery.org
